Hello, this is John Miller, president of the Science and Engineering
Division of NFB. I wanted to give some examples of how Scientific Notebook
5.5, working with a sighted assistent, can create latex source.
The sums and integrals in the latex source pasted below were created using
the Math Objects toolbar, not
the Math Templates toolbar. To add the Math Objects toolbar, go to View,
Toolbars..., check Math Objects and select OK button. My sighted assistant
clicks on the Big Operators button and selects the sum/integral sign and
either the Above/Below or Left/Right button for the limits, and then clicks
OK button.
All of these examples braille pretty well in Duxbury 10.5. Example 4,
showing the double integral, gives no baseline indicator after the upper
limit of the first integral and before the second integral. Does Nemeth
braille code require a baseline indicator at this point?
These examples show that single integrals and sumations and simple
subscripts and superscripts are prepared in well formed latex and that
Duxbury 10.5 makes good quality Nemeth braille code of this latex. I have
a small question about how Duxbury 10.5 handles the limits of the double
integral, but it is still not too bad to read around.
Do you have examples of mathematics in your field that Duxbury brailles
well in the Nemeth code?
To see the examples brailled with Duxbury, you would have to paste the
latex expression inside a scientific notebook file using notepad. You can
also contact me for a the whole scientific notebook file that generated
these examples.
Best regards.

Latex source:

Example of simple sum:

1. $\dsum\limits_{i=0}^{n-1}x_{i}^{2}$

Example of double sum:

2. $\dsum\limits_{i=1}^{n}\dsum\limits_{j=0}^{m}x_{j}^{3}$

\vspace{1pt}Example of simple integral:

3. $\dint_{a}^{b}2x^{3}dx$

Example of double integral:

4. $\dint_{a}^{y}\dint_{b}^{x}3\pi dxdy$
