Nate -
Marty Lanter and Galvin here. First, let me apologize for writing you this way. My laptop broke down about a month ago and when I got her fixed, my entire harddrive was wiped down in the process. I lost every email address, phone number, what have you!
I'm struggling to get back all that info. And it was right after I got my laptop back that I heard you were leaving. So please allow an old friend to wish you well.

Nathaneal, I hope you remember what a difference you made in my life. If not for you I probably would never have made it to Colorado. That meant everything to me and you are the one who made it happen. I've never forgotten the difference you made.
You will be my friend forever because of that. I will never know how to thank you.

After that, I miss being in California because I miss the River City Chapter. And you are a big part of that. Out here in Illinois there is no chapter within about fifty miles.
So it's tough to get to a meeting! But I'm working on it.

I wish you well my friend. I have spent a lot of time in New York. Sighted and blind.
It is a tough town but some of the best people you will ever meet. Now, getting married? You have no one to blame but yourself! I am kidding of course. It is rare when we are lucky enough to find someone who loves us despite of ourselves.
And you know what I mean because you can be an ornry son of a gun. But that is also one of the best things about you in my book. I don't know who she is but I do know
she is a lucky woman. And you are even more lucky since she seems to love you anyway!

I know we will run into each other again. But Sacramento will never be the same without you. So be well. Take very good care of yourself and even better care your wife.
Life is a good thing. You will be missed out there.

ok
let love rule

Dear Colleagues in Our River City Chapter and California Affiliate:

I have already shared with those of you who attended our National Federation
of the Blind River City chapter meeting this last Saturday about my new job
which allows me to be closer to my fiancee and my upcoming move. For those
of you who could not attend and for those of you throughout the state (and
nation), I'd like to take a moment to share with you as well.

My fiancee, therese McCabe, is in law school at Yale in New Haven,
Connecticut. For the past several months I have been actively looking for
work in my profession, civil engineering, in the area so we can be closer as
we prepare for marriage and joining our lives together afterwards. Two
weeks ago I accepted a job as a civil engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers in their New York district office in New York City. I will be
living in Connecticut: in Stratford, right on the commuter rail line between
New Haven and New York City. My last day of work in California is today; my
first day at my new job is Monday the 19th.

As a result, at our regular March meeting of our NFB River City Chapter I
stepped down as president. Per the constitution, our first vice-presidentr,
Tiffany Manosh, became president. Eric Clegg, our second vice-president,
was elected to fill the office of first vice-president; and Mike Couey was
elected to fill the office of second vice-president. I am confident that
Tiffany and her team of leaders will do a good job and carry on the work of
our chapter. At our meeting we voted in two new members, signed two others
up for our March for Independence, and discussed upcoming local
opportunities for blind consumers and planned new fundraisers to fund our
chapter's efforts and our national movement. Finally, the chapter looks
forward to again serving as the host chapter for our NFB of California
convention this fall, and I believe that our promoted and new chapter
leaders--and every member--will continue our tradition as good hosts.

For the past two and a half years I have served as the Imagination Fund
coordinator for northern California. Many of you have helped me to be
successful and made my job this year easy by signing up for our March for
Independence planned to take place at our National Convention. Affiliate
president Robert Stigile and I hav passed this job onto Jason Holloway. He
will do a good job I am sure, and you should look forward to hearing from
him as our National Convention is fast approaching.

Over the past ten years it has been a pleasure to serve with so many of
ya'll in the Sacramento area, in the student division, and on the affiliate
level. Our chapter's founding president, Eric Clegg; Jim Willows; Maria
Morais Bell (whom I follow in following my heart out of the state)--and so
many more that I could not in the confines of this space name--have taught
me so much, mentored me, and encouraged me. The leader I am today is in so
much part a direct result of so many of ya'll's caring and efort. My
success as a student and as a professional is in large part because of
ya'll's encouragement and the specific mentoring that only the National
Federation of the Blind can provide to young blind people. All of you: keep
up the good work! You do change lives!

I look forward to carrying on what I have learned, what I have done, and
what I have been given in my new community in Connecticut and in my
workplace in the federal government in New York City. Though with the
appropriate time constraints of a new job and preparing for marriage, I look
forward to giving whenever and wherever I can. I am already planning to be
a mentor at the NFB Youth Slam this summer, and I am looking forward to that
with much joy. I hope to find blind students interested in science and
engineering to mentor in my area: I am already in touch with one of our 2006
Rocket On camp students from New Jersey. And, of course, I look forward to
keeping up with many of you--and I hope many of you will keep me updated on
what's going on with you. At future National Conventions I may be only a
few loud Colorado affiliate rows behind ya'll.

My very best to ya'll. Please keep up the good work we've been doing.
Please keep impacting the lives of blind people of all ages and from all
backgrounds in every way you can.

  Regards,
  Nathanael T. Wales
