The Society for the Blind, located in Sacramento,
California, is a 501c(3) non-profit agency
dedicated to empowering individuals who are blind
or have low vision to live productively and
independently by building confidence through
training, tools and mentorship. To do this, the
Society employs over 45 individuals who support
and provide multiple services, including
instruction in independent travel, computers and
adaptive technology, Braille, and daily living
skills such as cooking and home repair. The
Society also administers a low vision clinic, a
retail store, an access news telephone service,
and senior, youth and career development

Job Title: Access News Coordinator
Classification: Non-Exempt/Full-Time
Reports to: Assistant
Director - Low Vision and Operations
General Description: The essential function of
the job is to manage the daily activities at the
Access News program. This individual is
responsible for evaluating the content and
updating the system in which the content
resides. Additionally, this individual promotes
and builds partnerships in order to expand the
number of program subscribers and
volunteers. Furthermore, this individual is
responsible for collecting user and volunteer
data and reporting its findings to his/her supervisor for further assessment.
Duties:
Records/System Maintenance and Volunteer Services:
* Maintain records and equipment.
* Maintain and update list of publications and content.
* Perform regular evaluations of current
software to meet changing organizational needs.
* Maintain the Access News Program Manual
that describes policies and procedures for efficient operation.
* Train volunteer readers the usage of the system.
* Plan and coordinate with the Volunteer
Coordinator volunteer reader schedules.
* Place orders for materials as needed.
Program Development:
1. Create and conduct customer satisfaction surveys.
2. Establish advisory teams and work closely
with them in gathering user feedback.
4. Develop community partnerships and sponsorships.
* Perform competitor surveys to identify
opportunities for growth in the program.
* Identify and pursue alternative funding
resources to augment current grant.
Reporting:
1. Maintain and provide statistical reports on the following:
ü Usage hours
ü Monthly average of usage hours
ü Registered number of users
ü Volunteer hours contributed
ü List of publications
ü Summary of services delivered during a period of time
Others:
* Attend all staff and departmental meetings.
* Adhere to all Society policies and procedures.
* Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
1. Excellent English grammar and usage
2. Good computer keyboard, computer basics
and word processing and database software familiarity
3. Bachelors degree and two years of related work experience
