DOWNTOWN AREA LIGHT RAIL SERVICE TO BE SHUT DOWN

Service Stopped for Five Consecutive Weekends

Bus Detours Also in Effect

Sacramento Regional Transit District (RT) contractors will shut down light
rail in the downtown area for five consecutive weekends beginning Friday,
July
28 in order to connect RT's existing light rail system with the new
extensions on 7th and 8th streets. The construction is part of the .5-mile
Amtrak/Folsom
light rail extension to the Sacramento Valley Station.

The weekend closure schedule is as follows:

July 28 - 31 (8 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Monday)

August 4 - 7 (8 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Monday)

August 12 - 13 (5 p.m. Saturday until 5 p.m. Sunday)

August 18 - 21(8 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Monday)

August 26 - 27 (5 p.m. Saturday until 5 p.m. Sunday)

During the service disruptions, buses will service all stations between
Alkali Flat and 16th Street light rail stations.

In addition, only one lane of 7th Street will remain open from 7 p.m.
Friday, July 28 until 5 a.m. Monday, July 31. Eighth Street will be closed
all five
weekends.

"Although we know the closures and detours are an inconvenience for
passengers and motorists alike, we believe the schedule RT has arranged with
the contractors
will keep that inconvenience to a minimum," said RT General Manager/CEO Dr.
Beverly Scott. "Unfortunately, it is work that must be done at some point."

will follow the detours listed below from Friday, July 28 through Saturday,
