Hi sharon;
The length of yarn depends on what you are doing, what you are
comfertable with and more. If you were doing an edging of a coaster,
you would need double the length needed to go around the coaster. Since
I do not know this lendth, I use arm lengths. I hold the yarn in my
left hand, spread my arms a little more than body with, do this 4 times
and I have enough yarn to do the edging of my coaster. Any extra yarn,
if I am making any more of that color, is used towards the next coaster.
Other jobs.
I like a rather long piece of yarn, maybe 2 arm lengths, as descrived
above. The longer the yarn you can handle with ease, the less times you
will have to close off your stitching. It all depends on what you are
doing. It is always better to have to long a piece of yarn than to
short a piece for a job. Cutting of yarn is sure easier than trying to
fill in stitches in a small place.
I used to do squares, one at a time, until I did my last baby shower
cleanex box. I found I could do a square and continue diagonally across
the canvis, putting in the squares, in a slant. They came out like all
the red squares on a checker board, in a diaginal row.
This allowed me to continuously stitch in one row and change the flow of
the stitch in another row.
I think that is enough for you to obsorb in one e-mail.
Bye for now.
Terry Powers

Subject: [Nfb-krafters-korner] Determining Length of Yarn for Canvas
Hi all!
Does anyone have an idea of how to determine the length a piece of yarn
should be for certain amounts and types of stitches for plastic canvas?
Thanks!
Sharon
