Subject: [Nfb-krafters-korner] {nfb-krafters-korner} Friday's Question

Hello:

Hello, my name is Jaime Tomasello and I am from California. I signed
up
awhile ago but I do not remember if I mentioned who I was. Anyways, I have
been doing art and crafts for a LONG time. I have dabble in needlepoint
with
my grandma while I was growing up. I have made christmas ornaments of all
types off and on for a long time too. I did some emibordy until I could
not
see the pattern or design no longer which I miss doing emibordy. For about
eighteen years of my life I wanted to become a chef and even participated
in a
ROP cooking and catering class my junior and senior year in high school
which
was about ten years ago. i was cooking for three hours a day five days a
week for two years doing everything from making huge batches of cookies to
helping frying food for the break and lunch times at school to making
gingerbread
masterpieces by hand. it was a lot of work but it was a blast. then about
six years later i just got sick of it and moved on. when i was attending
the state blind school I was always doing some type of art from doing
abstract
paintings, doing hand built made pottery, and even making a stuff winnie
the
pooh doll for my cousin. now i am going to school to one day in the future
to be a special education teacher and teach for the blind in technology and
art. while i was attending the colorado center from 2004 to 2005 I
participated in a stone carving class and also made a blanket for one of my
friends as a
baby gift. when i came back to california i enrolled in several wheel
throwing classes at my community college where i currently where i attend
which i
had a blast. right now i am not really doing any type of art or craft
because i am completing my last semester of classes before graduating from
community college in May and will be transferring hopefully to St. Mary's
College of
California where I will be majoring in liberal/civic studies in the fall.
also i am the chairperson of the NFBCA art group and hope to have it
considered
as a chapter in the affiliate at our state convention in the middle of
October. if there are people who are on the list and they are from
california and
want to check out the meeting it will be on october 17, 2008 from 3 to 5pm.
hopefully it has not been approved yet by our state president in california
but if there are cali people on the list and want to come please email me
off
the list for more information about the CA art group meeting. but anyways
i
love being creative and be messy while doing art and crafts especially
dabbling here and there. i would love to help out to make the list group
into an
actual division which i think is awesome though i do not know still yet if
i
will be attending dallas this year or not. right now my love is creating
pottery especially doing it on the power mechanic wheel and i hate making
pieces
on the old fashioned foot wheel because it takes a lot more work than the
mechanic wheel. i am interested in plastic canvas work which i do not know
if
it is the same as needle point. making christmas ornaments, making either
quilts or blankets, using a loom and a niffty knitter, and the list can go
on
and on since i like to dabble in all art. anyways to answer this weeks
question, if i had the money i would love to learn how to blow glass since
the
firing process is like the same of firing pottery almost and it is cool how
it
turns out once the glass cools from the firing process. the type of art or
craft
i would like to do right now because i know i have the money is to
completely learn how to make something on the niffty knitter since i have
one and
actually started doing the first two rows to make something on one of the
circular looms but neither my mom who is sighted and i did not understand
the
directions after doing the first two rows so i decided to stop and it just
sits
there on the stool by the couch for it to collect dust. if anybody knows
how to
use a niffty knitter please let me know. sorry this is was so long of a
note but i hope this will let others on the list know who i am.
Jaime Tomasello, NFB of CA
