[Nfb-krafters-korner] Name of division?

People that sell their wares at our Medieval events are called
merchants. <smile> The guilds of the Medieval era considered all
experts to be craftsmen (there were a few acknowledged craftswomen). To
name levels of skill, the ranks were called, apprentice, journeyman, and
then the highest rank within a guild, master, as in "master of his
trade" or "mistress of her trade" but that sounds very odd in modern
context, even unsavory when applied to women. Somehow I do not see the
name for this group being the National Federation of the Blind Combined
Craftsmen's Guild.

Dave,
Artists would be considered fine arts. While there are some blind ones
out there, I have not found very many. My first bachelors degree is in
photography and I still do that as I am able. Drawing on the other
hand, I would like to find ways to do making it tactile. This is the
group that I came to seeking advice in this area. I have not been able
to find other blind artists that draw. The ones that I know personally,
work in ceramics and I can definitely see that fitting in with this
group.
This group has also inspired me to begin learning how to knit. As an
artist, I don't see there being a difference between crafters. It would
be nice if we could come up with a more sophisticated sounding name.
Arts and Crafts is inclusive but I also see the point someone already
made about it sounding like an elementary school class.
Lorraine, what does the SCA consider people that sell their wares at Ren
festivals?
