I have been knitting for many years.  I search  on the net for patterns and 
copy and paste them into a doc file.  I am not  sure where you can find basic 
learning directions, but Lion Brand Yarn has  patterns available in large print 
and Braille output.  Check out their  website.
 
If you need any help with reading or understanding patterns I am pretty  good 
at working them out.  About 30 years back I owned a yarn shop.   That was way 
long before I went blind.  I still knit and crochet.  I  am doing a little 
designing my own sweaters, too.
