David,
Have you ever been to a once a year special craft convention? Have you ever
been to a fiber weekend such as they hold in Maine in February? Have you
ever been to a quilting convention such as the ones in New York City or Houston
Texas? If your answer is yes, I need not say any more. If your answer is
no then you have missed a lot on having opportunities to be exposed to the
newbies and well experienced in those areas. Just the gathering together and
exchange of information and variety of classes and what you can learn can not
be imagined.
I was interested in the antique circular sock machines that date back to
after the Civil War and up to the 1920's. I did all the research I cold and I
had the opportunity to go to New Hampshire with a person I hitched a ride from
that I never met only online before. Well in the 3 days I spent there with
my sock machine I learned so much from everyone. I don't know if I ever
would have gotten as far with making socks on the machine if I had not gone.
This is what I hope can be a resource for folks that are blind to get
together once a year and share an experience like that.
With crafts it can take hands on only for a short time for a blind person to
understand the how to do it! Only another blind person's guidance
understand truly what we need to do and understand without sight.
