Sounds like labeling yarn is the way to go if an identifyer is not more
reliable than that.  With crafts you can not make a mistake on colors or
your project is a flop.

That works great until she tries to check the blue water in the toilet.

Color identifiers have their own light source for checking the color
spectrum.  You need to put it right against the thing you are checking.
Sometimes putting a cardboard tube from the toilet paper, over the
identifier, to cut out any other light sources can make them more
accurate.
Some identifiers do not have as many color choices in their software and
are therefore limited in their spectrum range.
For these you will need to keep examples to gage them against to judge
which way they go on the color wheel.  You get what you pay for.
