Hi Carolyn, carol and others;
I helped write those patterns that Horizons For the Blind has for sale.
I wrote the paterns and the lady I worked with made raised line drawings
to go along with them.
Plastic canvis is like a plastic piece of graph paper. In my
instructions, I gave the directions using rows and colums.
I started this kraft by going to a lot of kraft fairs. I became
intreaged with it because I could feal the stitches. Not long after I
started working, I met a girl that did plastic canvis. She worked in a
copy center and did it during her slack time. She tought me a lot. We
found the best way for me was for her to make me a sample and I could
copy it.
The best thing about plastic canvis, for blind people, is that the
squares are easy to feal. There are different sizes of holes, but if
you stick with the regular size, it is easy. There are books out on the
kraft, but if you have a little creativity, you can make your own
designs after learning a few methods of stitching.
In October, I will have an article in the Braille Monitor, selling some
NFB, whoozit, slate cases. I am also making coasters for next years
convention. I will present my article on 9/15, so you can get a
preview. I sold 8 at convention and donated 1 to the auction for
promoting the use of braille.
The Whoozit I use, I designed from the rubber one that we got when Miss
Whoozit first came out.
Items I have made:
Cleanex boxes
	square and rectangular
Eye glass cases
Covers for gate cards
Slate cases
Coasters, many designs
Piano mug or pencil holder
Items for the hair
Christmas placemats
Made a basket once, but handle was never secure

I have a small portfolio of samples of what I have done.

Terry,
I'd love to hear about your plastic canvas work. I've been thinking
about doing it, but wonder how totally blind folks can do the patterns
onto the plastic. I think Horizons for the Blind has a couple of
plastic canvas kits with brailled instructions.
My husband, Dennis, and I live in Northern VA so I guess we're somewhat
neighbors.
Carolyn

Hi Everyone;
My name is Terry Powers. I am from the state of Maryland. My main
kraft is plastic canvis. I also have done a little knitting and making
of pillows from wash cloths. Surprisingly enough, you put fringe to
connect them and they make nice pillows for a sofa or for a child to
play with.
Let me hear from some of you and then I will tell you about my plastic
canvis.
