I am sorry I did not make a comment regarding Di's question about sewing.
As far as a pocket placement if I was making a shirt that needed a patch
pocket and if I had sighted help I would have them help me pin it in place. I
would pin under the seam allowance and top turn down and have shirt pocket and
lay pattern on top, . With someone's help pin the top right and left corner
in place. You can pin the rest in place yourself just be sure to have it on a
flat surface. Then top stitch it in place.
If I did not have sighted help, I would finish the shirt and put it on.
With the pocket pinned turned under I would play with it and feel where I think
it feels best and likewise pin the top corners in place. I would take it off
then and lie it flat and measure from say bottom hem line if it is a
straight edge or fold up a straight edge and measure to check if pocket is not on an
angle.
If you had 2 pockeone on each side, I would do the same thing and get one
pinned in place and then fold shirt in half and you could line the other one
up and pin in place.
You just need to think these things out of how you can do it.
This is the place to come and get help on tips and tricks of doing things.
This is how I would handle it.
