Does anyone know any blind folks that knit on a knitting machine? There had
been some others seeking out information regarding this.
I really wanted to purchase a knitting machine and found the machine and a
teacher within an hour away from my home. I got a driver to take me up there
for my first lesson and I believe the teacher just did not know what to do
with me. Now I do know something about knitting machines, but not much. I had
gotten a few circular sock machines that aare antiques and had figured out
and made some socks on them. I had been told that I approached this kinda
backwards as the antique machines were made about 100 years ago and the modern
knitting machines are much easier to work with.
After my first class on the knitting machine, I hadn't gotten as far as I
hoped to, but I scheduled another appointment near the holiday last year. The
teacher contacted me and told me she really did not think I could do it and
canceled the appointment. I asked about the machine I was suppose to purchase
and she told me she had someone interested. She told me she did not realize
that I wanted to do different projects with the knitting Machines like
sweaters, handbags and 2 color design work. Well that is what the machine I was
purchasing was suppose to do. I believe she was more intimidated by my
blindness and after I came for the lesson she did not want to deal with it. She
had told me a friend of hers had a daughter that was blind and taught her how
to use the machine and would get advise from her. When I went there she told
me she had spoken to the lady and she was all set to teach me.
Discrimination comes in all forms for us.
