to make voting more accessible.

Pew and JEHT Foundation Make Grants Available to Study
and
Improve U.S. Elections

Deadline: June 4, 2007

The Pew Center on the States (
http://pewcenteronthestates.org/ ),
a division of the Pew Charitable Trusts (
http://pewtrusts.com/ ),
 and the JEHT Foundation (
http://www.jehtfoundation.org/ ) have
announced $2 million in total grants available to help
diagnose
how well U.S. elections are run and plan pilot
projects to be
 conducted in 2007 and 2008.

The RFP is part of a larger Pew initiative called Make
Voting
Work, which is focused on improving the accuracy,
convenience,
efficiency, and security of U.S. elections. MVW will
fund
 1) research to develop new measures diagnosing the
health of
the U.S. election system; and 2) planning grants to
develop and
evaluate pilot projects that offer solutions to
election problems.

The RFP targets election officials and academics
studying
elections issues, diverse academic disciplines (e.g.,
computer
science, economics, engineering, human factors and
design,
 operations and management, mathematics),
private-sector com-
panies with applicable expertise, nonprofits, and
nongovern-
 mental organizations.

For more information and details on how to apply and
get con-
nected with potential partners, see the FAQ on the Pew
Center
 on the State's Web site.
