Hi Everett, sorry you are missing convention.

Anyone got an idea for a last-minute fund-raiser; something we could do as a
chapter at convention? What kind of raffles have all of you tried? Any other
suggestions?

Hello Marion and all,

Mike, Dave, and Steve do a great job. They usually
manage to keep lists on topic. And yes, though it's
rather frustrating getting 30 or more copies of the
same message when they are mass-mailed to every list
rather than the one that was supposedly created for
such notices, well, we've all been told that those
happen on the lists and that it's "part of the deal."
There's no double-standard. Off-topic is off-topic,
and list announcements sent through by the moderators
or whatever they call themselves, are list
announcements. Usually press releases and things that
we're glad for.

What I find disturbing about this whole thread of
discussion is that I've just found messages on it, in
my inbox, from people I haven't heard from on this list
in months, if ever. People I've rarely seen
participating in fundraising discussions here, are
jumping into this totally off-topic subject. This has
been a fairly dead list for many, many moons now, as
far as actual discussions go regarding fundraising and
chapter-building. If we could get half the interest in
actually caring enough to try to help our own and other
chapters be better, as we've just gotten on a totally
irrelevant subject here, maybe many of the chapters and
so-called efforts across this nation wouldn't be
floundering as they are.

There seems to be no real sharing of ideas here. No
more asking for help. No giving feedback, tips, and
ideas on how to maybe make an event better next time.
Why? Why do so many of us waste our time giving
irrelevant opinions on smoking and non-smoking issues
in a place that we will only visit once a week every
few years at most, but we can't manage to actually do
something that might help our chapter, our events, and
other chapters and events across the whole nation?
Why?

Can we maybe get some real discussion going here,
please? Regarding the fundraising efforts of our
chapters? Of our friend-raising efforts, or of the
educational projects in your area, perhaps? Anyone?
What do y'all think are good ideas, that maybe your
chapters didn't implement, but might benefit someone
here? How do you think your chapter would have done
better, if they'd used a tactic or idea you are going
to share with us now? What worries or question marks
do you have, which you'd like help with? Then please,
ASK! Ask here, ask now. It's what this list is for.

I hope y'all have a blessed time in Atlanta. I wish I
could be there, *with* my cigars! (smile)

Regards,
Everett
