Dear Amanda,

I am the Palm Beach County Chapter president in Florida.

I have done lots of fund raising for my chapter in the past.
First of all, how long do you have to raise the money and how much do you
need?
how are you going to get there?
My chapter raises money to help blind people all year round and we always
help as many members attend the State Convention as we can afford.
We very often rent a van and get a volunteer driver to take us there. Some
times we rent two vans.
We might pay for the registration and banquet for the driver and sometimes
the room.
We can often find a spouse of a member who can drive us and this is a good
way to help them go and us too.
We usually pay half a room rate and give something toward food, but we don't
pay it all except in rare cases.
If we are sending people to the National Convention we pay half a room rate,
something for food and maybe most or all of a plane or train ticket.
Our members feel that if they want to go they should put something in the
pot too.
They are also required to make a report on the Convention when they get
back.
We are not interested in how great a time they had at Six Flags. We want to
know about elections, resolutions, speakers and Division meetings as well as
some of the interesting things they did and who they met. It is not a free
ride.
We have used all types of fund raisers from candy bar sales, yard sales,
riffle tickets,Bowl-A-Thons, Walk-A-thons and even just sending out letters
to businesses and service clubs asking for a donation.
Write me back and I can give you more details about how we have raised money
including grant writing and such.
I just need more info.
Do You do a monthly 50-50 raffle at meetings? Do you have a "tail Twister"
who goes around and thinks up small funny fines to lay on people for such
things as talking out do turn, wearing the same color shirt as the President
has on, not having their NFB Membership Card on them at a meeting. You
know, funny and silly stuff that brings in a dollar or two and creates some
fun.
They can also help to break up clicks in the group so that everyone gets to
know and meeting other members instead of just a few they sit with all of
the time at meetings.
As you get to know each other you can do more things.
I can help you raise funds, just let me know more about you and your
chapter.
