Hello,
Now some of you might say, simply, "what's this got to
do with blindness?" Which to me is the same as, "Bah,
humbug." And although I've been known on occasion to
mutter such things, what I see here with this grant
opportunity is great potential. Potential to get some
positive PR, amazingly easy!
If your chapter has 5 to 10 people that would be
willing to group together and paint some outside walls
on businesses, schools, and wherever else graffiti may
be in your community, I see great things happening!
Not only will you be showing positive aspects of
blindness, but you'll be helping your community out in
ways many people think you couldn't right now. You'd
get a few thousand dollars, put in some elbow grease,
and maybe have a few bucks left over for all that elbow
grease you put in. But most importantly, you'd
undoubtedly have opportunities to get some great
publicity for your efforts. Publicity leads to better
funding and better attendance with future effortts.
This is a great opportunity! Who is going to grab hold
of this one, and at least try?
Right now, we only have single digit numbers of people
who attend our chapter meetings regularly, but I'm
going to try to talk my team into it, I'll tell you
that!
God bless your efforts! The grant opportunity is
below.

Keep America Beautiful Introduces Graffiti Hurts Grants
Program
Deadline: June 29, 2007
Keep America Beautiful ( http://www.kab.org/ ) has
developed a
new Graffiti Hurts ( http://www.graffitihurts.org/ )
national
funding program to help communities kick-start or
intensify their
local graffiti-prevention activities. The 2007
Graffiti Hurts
Grant Program allows communities to apply for a grant
of $2,000,
offered in two categories: 1) communities with a
population over
300,000; and 2) communities with populations under
300,000.
The Graffiti Hurts Grant Program will operate on
alternate years
with the Graffiti Hurts National Awards program, which
recognizes
and rewards innovative, successful prevention efforts.
Proposed
projects for funding can address graffiti prevention
and educa-
tion, eradication, or enforcement of local
anti-graffiti laws.
Any of the following groups are eligible to apply for
a grant:
nonprofit, civic, and community organizations,
including neigh-
borhood groups (e.g., Neighborhood Watch); crime
prevention
associations, civic clubs or organizations, and other
nonprofit
groups; youth groups/schools, including any group of
youth such
as Girl/Boy Scouts, 4-H, Girls/Boys Clubs, YW/YMCAs,
and students
in a class, grade, or school club; government
agencies, including
police departments or other law enforcement; and city,
county,
state, and federal government agencies, or
subdivisions within
these agencies (e.g., department of public works).
Applications are available at the Keep America
Beautiful Web
site.
