Friends,
My local chapter in Central Kentucky, is having a Talent Show/Silent Auction
on April 28th. All participants in the Talent Show are blind or visually
impaired. We are holding this event in London, KY, about an hour south of
Lexington. We are finding that the folks in the "big city" are a little
jaded so we are reaching out into the smaller communities. We have a
fantastic PSA that is airing on local radio. Two of our members live in
London and the rest of us live at least 45 minutes away so they are doing
the best they can and next week a few of us will spend as long as we can to
help get it off the ground. I live in Nicholasville, KY, just south of
Lexington , and we are looking to do something there very soon. From what I
understand, southeast KY ranks fifth in the nation in occurrences of
blindness.
Our second annual Walk-a-thon is scheduled for June 9th. Last year's went
very well, especially for a first time, and we are hoping to double that. A
big goal considering a number of us are participating in the March in
Atlanta.
I am so sick of selling candy I want to throw up. I much prefer asking
businesses to sponsor me in a walk and there's no way a candy sale can make
our chapter a couple grand. Maybe I'm overstating, but even if we could
raise that much in a candy sale, it would take a lot of work. Asking one
business to give us a hundred or two is much easier and a better use of time
than selling fifty or a hundred $2 candy bars!
Thanks, Everett, for kicking me in the butt to get my act together to share.

Hello,

So where is everyone? Where's the networking, the
information-sharing, the cameraderie here--that helps
us all be better? What are y'all working on this
month, this week, for your chapter? Fundraiser?
Friendraiser? Protest March? Letter-Writing Campaign?
Anything?

Our chapter here in Northeast Ohio is working on our
Spring Bowl-A-Thon. It's coming up fast, on April 28.
We've got to begin workin on this Fall's Walk-A-Thon
right after that, for White Cane Safety Day & Meet the
Blind Month in October. One of our members is also
involved with that Tri-state conference in
Pennsylvania, the "No Blind Child Left Behind
Conference. Lastly, we've begun the process to hold a
Spaghetti Dinner to raise $2500 to send our local
center for the blind's Executive Director to the
Louisiana Center for the Blind for one week. That's
all I can think of right now. Anyone else care to chim
in with what they're doing these days, in regards to
promotion, fundraising, friendraising, etc.?

To Your Success!
Everett
