This list is sponsored by the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) and the
National Association of Guide Dog Users (NAGDU).

The primary objective of this list is to offer information, support, and
guidance to individuals interested in topics related to living as a guide
dog user and caring for a guide dog. It is open to anyone, including guide
dog users, cane users, guide dog professionals, representatives of guide dog
training programs, puppy raisers, or those simply interested in
understanding the advantages and challenges of using a guide dog. While we
encourage membership in NAGDU and the NFB, membership is not a requirement
for joining the list. NAGDU maintains a neutral stance toward guide dog
training programs and owner-trained guide dogs. We acknowledge the
individual preferences regarding specific training programs and choosing to
train a dog independently. Our approach emphasizes informed choice,
empowering individuals to make decisions about obtaining a guide dog based
on their personal needs.

Although this list primarily focuses on guide dog users, there will
occasionally be posts addressing critical issues related to blindness, as
well as announcements about the activities of NAGDU and the NFB. Topics
discussed on the list may include, but are not limited to, the benefits and
challenges of using a guide dog, guide dog training programs, dog care,
equipment, puppy raising, training, public access issues, legislation
affecting guide dog users, public perceptions of guide dogs, and the
activities of the National Association of Guide Dog Users. To maintain a
manageable volume of communications, we ask that members limit posts to a
maximum of five per day. Only posts related to guide dog users are
permitted; off-topic discussions should be directed privately or to another
relevant list. We encourage open discussions and respectful debates about
guide dogs and their use, but the list is not intended for comparisons
between guide dogs and canes, personal attacks about mobility options, or
criticisms of specific training programs. We believe that mobility choices
are deeply personal and should be respected. While it is acceptable to
disagree with another member's opinion, this should always be done in a
respectful manner. Personal attacks or inappropriate language will not be
tolerated. All members are expected to adhere to the NFB Code of Conduct,
which can be found at

https://nfb.org/about-us/history-and-governance/code-conduct
