Wow thank you for that informaiton. I didn't know they were available in PDF
format. That would have been a big help to me, as the Encoder Pro was
difficult to use. I will go check it out to see how much it costs to get the
books that way. Thanks again.

Alicia, they have to update the CDs every year as per CMS, and they are
available, the can be read with PDF format that is what I had that the
school got for me. And it was the same year. You need to look for it, and
when you are working, your employer will purchase it for you, they have to
get the updates anyway, plus you can go to CMS.gov online to get them also.

Encoder Pro came with one of my textbooks, and it takes time to use but it
does the job, Encoder is for the person who knows what they want and you
need to learn the body systems etc, to know how to use it correctly. Again,
it was hard for me because I was the first blind student that they had, and
they weren't going to accommodate me and wanted me basically to drop out and
I wouldn't do it, I did so well that I made President's list which is 3.5 or
higher, I am carrying a GPA of 3.80 and I am going to Stony Brook University
in the Fall to take health sciences non-clinical BA and take a minor in
Disability Services.

If anyone needs help with school on this topic Medical billing/coding it can
be done with a willing school, etc. Such as a college or tech school who
has had disabled students, or willing to work hand-in-hand with you
vocational department, this school did neither so I had to do it all on my
own.

Okay, so can someone answer my questions about transcription, I have taken
it in school I type 70+ wpm I have join MTjobs but I would like to know if
there are companies out there that would take me, I have 3+ years as a
transcriptionist but in the legal field and not the medical, basically work
from home and maybe a company that might supply the equipment, or where I
could buy some cheap ones. doesn't matter the field or I have learned
specialties, etc.

Thank you.

  Hello:

When I took procedures and diagnosis coding, the colege urchased a
software
package for me called Encoder Pro. This is a ICD9 and CPT code look up
software program. It was not easy to use for looking up the codes, but it
did get the job done. The coding books are not accessible in alternative
format, because they are published and released twice a year. They are
released in April and October, which makes it difficult to produce an
alternative format text. Using an encoder program will help you look up
the
codes and complete your course work independently. I also used a reader
who
was experienced in procedures and diagnosis coding to help me look up the
codes in the book. These are just my thoughts. Good luck.

  Alicia
