Subject: Re: [nabop] customer service question

Hi Sarah,

As President of National Association of Blind Office Professionals since
1996, I have worked for several companies within the last 18 years of
employment. I worked for Qwest Communications as Telephone Operator when
living in San Antonio, Texas from May 1995 through August 2000. From
there I
worked as Sears Associate in their call center also in San Antonio,
Texas
from October 9, 2000 through November, 2004.
Before that I lived in Shreveport, Louisiana and worked for Louisiana
Association for the Blind in the human Services Department as Clerk
Typist/Receptionist and also did a host of other things such as teaching
braille teaching adaptive technology in both speech and braille access
methodologies, worked on stuffing envelopes, counting products to be
packaged in boxes, and a host of other things that needed to be done in
a
sheltered workshop on the production line doing contract work. This type
of
work was done between May 1986 through April 1994. Before that time I
worked
at LSU Medical Center as Telephone Operator from September 1985 through
November 1985. My first job I had was an Assistant Librarian from summer
1982 while going to summer school at Louisiana School for the Blind and
Visually Impaired in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Currently I am working for Clovernook Center for the Blind and Visually
Impaired as a Braille Proofreader. I have been working at this job since
July 10, 2006 after receiving my certification as Textbook Braille
Transcriber from Northwest Vista College.
None of these jobs I have mentioned requires a college degree. I'd be
happy
to talk with you about any of them should you have any questions.
My number is listed below as well as my email and web page addresses.
I hope I can be of help to you in the near future.
Thanks for inquiring for information on our mailing list. This is what
it is
all about--being able to share information between one another in our
group.

Sincerely,

Lisa Hall, President since 1996

of
National Federation of the Blind

Subject: [nabop] customer service question

Hello. I am a college student in Texas. I would like to know what
degree would be useful to obtain employment as a customer service
representative at a call center. I am a single mom with two school-aged
children. what is the average annual salary to work in this field?
What
are some companies that hire blind people? Any information will be
greatly
appreciated.
    Sarah
