Hi Miranda,

If you have someone to work with before you get to the conducting 
course, such as a vocal coach or choral director, ask them to teach 
you the beat patterns, cuts, cues, dynamics etc. so you can practice 
before you get to college. Use a baton to help your hand motions look 
more fluid. It will also be helpful to have braille music for the 
pieces you're expected to conduct, so you might ask what music will 
be used. I didn't do any of this, so my two semesters of choral 
conducting were rough. HTH.
