Hi Robert
Have you ever looked at the web page musicbyear.com? Bill Brown who
developed this site teaches an assortment of instruments, including bass
guitar, via tape or download and teaches to play by ear. He has a site
called guitarbyear.com also and there are probably two hundred songs listed
there in various genre, maybe more. The Library of Congress has most of
these lessons and songs through the NLS. They are free if you subscribe to
this. I have checked out several of his guitar tapes, particularly for jazz
guitar. He does a good job.
Incidentally Ive not found jaws to be much help when reading tabs. However
I have had success when the chord name is written above the tab which does
occur some of the time. I can then figure out what I need from that. I
play fingerstyle and chord shapes are critical.
There is another site called talkingtabs.com that you should take a look
at. This is not free and the NLS does not carry these listings, but the
prices are not prohibitive if you are trying to get a complete song together
for your group. Each song costs around thirteen dollars.
Hope this helps.
