Hi Alexandria,
I had something similar happen to me. I'm also totally blind. I signed up
to be a part of leadership in my church choir, and they listed everyone but
me.
I absolutely faced them with it. She said there wasn't room on the sheet,
which was not true. I asked them to make it right the next week, and they
announced my name as part of leadership and created a job for me since all
the jobs were too visual. They should have told me that in the beginning
instead of leaving my name off the list and ignoring my willingness to
serve.
So just make sure they know that you are aware when they exclude you, and
ask them to make it right, if you play in the band.
Whatever you do, Don't ever give up
Anne

Subject: [musictlk] Feel Like Giving Up as a Trumpet Player
Hi there everyone. I am a totally blind trumpet player. I am a member of my
local American Legion Band. I feel horrible because at last rehearsal, they
didn't even count me as one of the trumpet players. They were talking about
the next concert and the conductor was saying how there were only going to
be two trumpeters there. I asked her if she meant ones that can see, and she
right out said yes, not counting that I was going to be there. I have been
practicing extremely hard for this band, but they play new music every
rehearsal and concert. I am having my friend from my bugle corps record my
parts, so this should make it easier, but I just feel so yuck. I feel like I
am just there because they have to include me like some abnormal person. Are
there any other blind trumpet players out there that could help me or give
me advice?
