Betsy often talked about her difficulties in her identity as a blind person.
Like so many of us with residual vision, she refused for many years any
consideration of herself as blind. You know the refrain. I can see
something, so I'm not blind. Then somewhere along the line, Betsy said she
could no longer sustain the denial and the shame. She embraced her
blindness as a natural part of life, and she applied her many talents
towards making a better life for those who follow her. Betsy will be
missed, and she and her family deserve our best thoughts and prayers.
