I was fortunate to have attended a number of sessions at which Betsy
Zabrowsky either chaired or spoke, and I was always so impressed by her
knowledge and her kindness of spirit. She was an excellent speaker, and an
excellent listener. She was a tireless advocate for so many issues
confonting blind persons. Indeed. She will be missed. I am thinking today
of her, and the many things I learned from her. A very fine leader, and an
inspiration. And a great example of an ideal member of the Federation. I
viewed her efforts always as being selfless, endeared and locked in to the
big picture. Who will fill her shoes? No one, in the very same way. But
hopefully others of us, who worked with her, will do what they can to help.
I feel like she would want that very much.
Thank you, Beth, for posting the news for us.

Dear List,
Most of you do not know who Betsy Zaborowski was, but I assure you her
influence will be felt for generations to come. Betsy, who died early
this morning, was the founding Director of the Jernigan Institute, NFB's
center for research and eduction for blind people.
The Jernigan Institute strives to understand the real problems of
blindness and to develop innovative education, technologies, products
and services that help the worlds blind achieve independence. The
Jernigan Institute has developed programs in Education, Employment and
Rehabilitation, Jacobus tenBroek Library, Parent Outreach, Seniors, and
Technology.
Betsy will be missed.
Beth Underwood
