[Mt-blind] service dog training schools in Montana

Hello Ted and list,

I may as well weigh in on all of this even though I'm not a dog user myself.

Kayla is learning how to train a service dog which would be used by someone
with a disability other than blindness! I agree with this assessment. So
far, so good! Her completing training at Guidedogs for the Blind at San
Rafael would not guarantee her success or failure in this educational
pursuit. The letter said this was going to be her minor. The problem is
how the project was being promoted. It is my understanding that one's
guidedog or guidedog school could not be used in other promotional
fundraising unless such fundraising involved the school where the dog came
from. Using the dog or school in other fundraising is strictly prohibited.
This has been my understanding for a number of years now. This is what is
at issue here. Is her dog being used inappropriately for promoting her
school project especially if she is trying to raise funds for this project
of hers? I'd say so whether she herself asks for the money or anyone else
around her does the same especially when the guidedog and school were
mentioned a number of times in the letter which was sent out by personalle
at Carol College. If it can be shown that her project was promoted
inappropriately, then we as individuals or an organization shouldn't be
dragged into possible legal action. We should keep our distance from this
project because her dog somehow became involved in the promotional material!
She should receive our assistance as other college students have with
scholarships etc. It is my understanding she has not applied for an MAB
scholarship ever! She certainly has the opportunity to do so and I hope she
considers doing so in the future. I think we should help her when and where
we can but let's leave her guidedog and guidedog school name out of the
promotional material. Such should be sanctioned by her school.

Thanks for reading!

Jim Aldrich

Greetings,
I think that some misunderstanding is growing things way out of
proportion. I believe that Kayla was working with a dog which was to be
trained for a service animal, not that Kayla was training a blind guide
dog.. Didn't it indicate that she had her own "trained" dog from San
Rafael? I don't remember anywhere it stated she was training the dog
concerned with as a Blind Guide dog.

If I am wrong, I apologize, but we need to be sure of what we are
replying to. Even myself.
