Bruce and I just returned from voting absentee in the primary election, and
using the voting machine for the first time. We were able to vote entirely
independently without any assistance whatsoever for the first time ever. It
was pretty cool. You wear a pair of head phones to listen to a spoken menu
that is self-explanatory, and there is a key to turn off the screen for
privacy. The machine does not care how you insert the ballot, it will
figure it out and mark it as you specify, or not at all if you specify that.
If you desire, you can review or change your selections at the end before
you print the ballot and put it in the secure envelope.

The person at the polling place said these machines are even equipped so
that those who are quadriplegic can use them, making their yes or no
selections with puffs and sips from a straw.

Happy voting.

  Joy
