Be Part of the Story
at the Central Library Grand Opening:
Saturday, May 20, 2006, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Minneapolis Public Library
300 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis

Join us on Saturday, May 20th for our opening celebration from 10 AM to 6 PM. Come early to join Mayor R.T. Rybak and other dignitaries for outdoor festivities, live music, and a countdown to the opening of the library doors. Inside, explore the library's collection (nearly 100% of the collection accessible to the public!) on all four floors, discover public art installations by artists from across the nation, explore the new gallery space, and participate in children's activities. Visit our new Dunn Brothers Coffee Shop and The Friends of the Library Bookstore.

Everyone is invited!

  d.. Featured speakers in Pohlad Hall - author readings and architectural talks 
  e.. Free book bags to all children who check out books on opening day, courtesy of Target 
  f.. Free bottled water and cookies in Library Commons, courtesy of Whole Foods 
  g.. Demos in the Best Buy Technology Center 
  h.. The Friends Bookstore will be open for business, and new library merchandise will be on sale in the Doty Board Room

Metro Transit is offering free rides throughout the day to riders who show their Minneapolis library card.

Look for over 350 volunteers in red t-shirts, and Minneapolis Public Library staff in blue t-shirts, ready to greet and assist you throughout the day.
