The Adelante! U.S. Education Leadership Fund sets itself apart from other
programs by its combination
of financial assistance and leadership training for the workplace. Adelante
provides $1,200 and $3,000
annual scholarships to deserving Hispanic college students. Applicants must
be college juniors attending
a Hispanic-serving institution with a 3.0 GPA, pursuing a degree in a

The Hispanic College Fund, in partnership with Allfirst, offers a

American Architectural Foundation (AAF)-Minority/Disadvantaged Scholarship
The American Architectural Foundation awards scholarships to minority or

Selected Professions Fellowships are awarded to women who intend to pursue a

American Bar Association (ABA)-Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund
The Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund, established within the Fund for
Justice and Education, is
intended to encourage racial and ethnic minority students to attend law
school and to provide financial
assistance to those in need. The Scholarship Fund awards $5,000 of financial
assistance annually to each
scholarship recipient attending an ABA-accredited law school. Assuming the
recipient achieves
satisfactory performance in law school, an award made to an entering
freshman may be renewed for two
additional years, resulting in financial assistance totaling $15,000 during
his or her time in law school.
Applicants must be minority U.S. citizens or permanent residents with a 2.5
GPA who will be starting law
school in the fall. For 2003-2004, twenty scholarships will be awarded.

American Chemical Society-Scholars Program
The American Chemical Society sponsors a scholarship program designed to
encourage Hispanic,
African-American, and American Indian students to pursue undergraduate
college degrees in the chemical
sciences and chemical technology. The goal of the scholarship program is to
aid in building an awareness
of the value and rewards associated with careers in science and to assist
students in acquiring the skills
and credentials needed for success in these areas. The scholarships are
awarded on the basis of merit and
financial need to high school seniors planning a science preparatory program
of study, and college
students who are currently freshmen, sophomores, or juniors who are
committed to the study of
chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or other chemically related
fields such as environmental
science, materials science, or toxicology and are interested in pursuing
careers in one of these fields.
Students interested in two-year chemical technology programs and careers in
this field are also eligible.
Students must have strong academic records and show an interest in, and
potential for, careers in the

The AICPA Scholarships for Minority Accounting Students provide competitive
awards to outstanding
full-time undergraduate minority students at regionally accredited
institutions to encourage their selection
of accounting as a major, entry into the profession, and ultimately
achieving the CPA designation. Fulltime
graduate students (who are not CPAs) seeking a Master's degree in accounting
or taxation and
students pursuing a Master's in business administration, if their

The AMS Centennial Fellowship Program makes awards annually to outstanding

American Political Science Association (APSA)-Minority Fellows Program
The Minority Fellows Program was established to increase the number of
minority Ph.D. candidates in
the political science field. The program designates six stipend minority
fellows, and additional applicants
who do not receive funds from the Association are recognized and recommended
for admission and
financial support to every graduate political science program in the
country. Fellows with stipends receive

The APA Minority Fellowship Program's objective is to increase the awareness

American Sociological Association (ASA)-Minority Fellowship Program
Through its Minority Fellowship Program (MFP), the American Sociological
Association (ASA) supports
the development and training of minority sociologists in mental health.
Funded by a grant from the
National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the Fellowship Program seeks to
attract talented minority
students interested in mental health issues and to facilitate their
placement, work, and success in graduate
programs throughout the U.S. Applicants can be new or continuing graduate
students. However, the MFP
is primarily designed for minority students entering a doctoral program in
sociology (with an emphasis on
mental health) for the first time or for those who are in the early stages
of their graduate programs.
Fellows receive an annual stipend of $16,500, plus payment of their tuition.
Funding may be extended for
up to three years. In addition, the program provides professional
development training for the fellows in
conjunction with the ASA's Annual Meeting. Summer research internships are
used to place Fellows in
projects at sites with major, ongoing studies in mental health.

Students
The Nonprofit Sector Research Fund, a grant-making program of the Aspen
Institute in Washington, DC,
annually offers the William Randolph Hearst Endowed Scholarship. Through
this program, the Fund seeks
to introduce a diverse group of students to issues relating to philanthropy,
voluntarism, and nonprofit
organizations. The scholarship, which is based on academic excellence and

Scholar serves as a summer intern

The College Assistance Migrant Program offers scholarships to students who
are migrant or seasonal
farm workers and/or whose families work in agricultural activities directly

Since 1961, the Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund has provided need-based grants

Education Award (CLASE)
The CLASE Award is offered to full-time undergraduate or graduate students
of any major in the United
States (including Puerto Rico) or Mexico. Students in the fifty states or
Puerto Rico may use the
scholarships to take courses at their home institution or to study abroad at
a HACU-member institution in
Mexico. Students in Mexico can only use the award to study at a HACU-member
institution in the U.S.
Applicants must possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 and must be enrolled
at one of HACU's
member or partner colleges. Awards are for $1,000 and are not renewable.

Hispanic College Fund (HCF)-H.I.S. Program
The H.I.S. Program is designed to help talented Hispanic students meet their
financial and career
development goals. H.I.S. scholars receive a scholarship ranging from $500
to $5,000 from the Hispanic
College Fund and participate in INROADS' leadership development training,
while interning at Sprint for
10 to 12 weeks during the summer. Program is open to U.S. citizens of
Hispanic heritage who are fulltime
college undergraduates and have a 3.0 GPA. Students must be available to
complete a minimum of
two consecutive summer internships at Sprint before college graduation, must
be majoring in business,
business administration, accounting, finance, economics, engineering
specialties, computer science,
information systems, management information systems, or other relevant
technology or business areas,
and must have an interest in the telecommunications field. To apply for this

Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Conference (HENAAC)
HENAAC's mission is to seek out, recognize, honor, and document Hispanic
excellence in science and
technology nationwide. Every year, one undergraduate and one graduate
student are selected to receive
the HENAAC Student Leadership Award, which includes a scholarship for

Hispanic Heritage Awards Foundation
The Hispanic Heritage Awards Foundation seeks to identify and promote the
next generation of role
models by celebrating their achievements in the classroom and community.
Each year, the Foundation
awards scholarships to Latino students in 12 host's cities: Chicago, Dallas,
Houston, Los Angeles, Miami,

New York City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco

Washington, DC. Awards are given in six categories: mathematics, leadership

Scholarship
Working in partnership with federal agencies, the HSF Institute has designed
a human capital strategy that

As part of LULAC's education efforts, the National Scholarship Fund (LNSF)
was established in 1975 to
provide scholarships to Hispanic students. Under the LNSF program, local
LULAC councils, in

students in their communities. LNSF

MALDEF is a national non-profit organization whose mission is to protect and

Program
Each year, NACME supports the aspiration of hundreds of undergraduates in

Scholarship Program
The National Association of Hispanic Journalists offers various
opportunities for financial assistance to
Latino students through its Rubén Salazar Scholarship Fund. Applicants must

The New Horizon Scholars Program is a new scholarship offered in partnership

Through its Multicultural Affairs Scholarship Program, PRSSA awards

The Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans provide opportunities
for continuing
generations of able and accomplished New Americans to achieve leadership in

Recipients receive grants for up to two years of graduate study in the
United States. Each year, a fellow
receives a maintenance grant of $20,000 (paid in two installments) and a

Scholarship
Sponsored by the American Intellectual Property Law Education Foundation
(AIPLEF) and administered
by the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund, this scholarship addresses the
need to increase the number
of minority intellectual property attorneys and to bring these attorneys to
the attention of firms and
corporations as candidates for employment. The $10,000 scholarship is
awarded to minority students
developing a career in intellectual property law or holding a past or
present, full or part-time position in
an area related to intellectual property law. Applicants must also have a
demonstrated financial need and
outstanding academic performance in the undergraduate and law school level
(if applicable).

United Methodist Youth Organization-The Richard S. Smith and David W. Self
Scholarships
The Richard S. Smith and David W. Self Scholarships are awarded to United
Methodist minority students
who are continuing their self-development through higher education. These
awards are for the first year of
undergraduate study and are non-renewable. Scholarships may be for up to
$1,000 for full-time study.
Applicants must be United Methodist youth active in their local church for
at least one year prior to
application, must be graduating high school seniors with at least a "C"
average, and must be U.S. citizens
pursuing a "church-related" career. In addition, applicants must be able to
establish financial need.

UNITY: Journalists of Color, Inc.-Founders Scholarship
The UNITY Founders Scholarship is dedicated to the founding members of
UNITY: Journalists of Color,
Inc. It honors their vision, commitment, and hard work in realizing the
mission and goals of UNITY. The
scholarship is for $2,500 and it is awarded to college juniors or seniors
majoring in journalism or mass
communications at an accredited college or university. Applicants must have
at least a 3.0 GPA. They
also must demonstrate experience and interest in multi-cultural issues in
American society.

U.S. Department of Education-Jacob Javits Fellowship Program
The Jacob Javits Fellowship Program provides financial assistance to
students of superior ability, as
demonstrated by their achievements and exceptional promise, to undertake
study at the doctoral or Master
of Fine Arts (MFA) level in selected fields of the arts, humanities, and
social sciences. The fellowship
consists of an institutional payment (accepted by the institution of higher
education in lieu of all tuition
and fees for the fellow) and a stipend (based on the fellow's financial need
as determined by the
measurements of the Federal Student Assistance Processing System). In 2002,
the institutional payment
was $11,031 and the maximum stipend was $21,500. Applicants must be entering
graduate students or
individuals who have not yet completed their first full year of a graduate
program. Only U.S. citizens or
permanent residents are eligible.

U.S. Hispanic Leadership Institute (USHLI)-Dr. Juan Andrade Scholarship for
Young Hispanic
Leaders
The U.S. Hispanic Leadership Institute began awarding scholarships in 1994
to assist Latino students in
obtaining a college education. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal
residents, must be enrolled or
accepted for enrollment as full-time students in a four-year college or
university in the U.S. or U.S.

territories, and must demonstrate a verifiable need for financial support.
In addition, at least one parent
must be of Hispanic ancestry.

World Studio Foundation
The World Studio Foundation awards scholarships to students majoring in
advertising, architecture,
environmental graphics, fashion design, filmmaking, fine arts, furniture
design, graphic design,
illustration, interior design, or landscape architecture. The scholarships
are awarded on the basis of
academic achievement. Students must show exceptional promise in their chosen
field, have an interest in
using their profession to give back to society, and be prepared to examine
issues of cultural identity in
submitted work. Applications from current high school seniors,
undergraduates, and graduate students are
accepted. Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000.

Scholarships
The Yes I Can! Foundation awards the Stanley E. Jackson Scholarships to help
students with disabilities
achieve their educational goals. Each year, awards of $500 are given to four
to ten students who will enter

Young Epidemiology Scholars (YES) Competition
In an effort to raise awareness of public health and the field of
epidemiology among our nation's students,
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation awarded an $8.5 million grant to the
College Board to develop a
national competition for high school students and teachers-the Young
Epidemiology Scholars (YES)
Competition. The competition for original student research is designed to
identify and inspire the most
talented and creative high school students. The competition is open to high
school juniors and seniors
who apply epidemiological principles to a specified area of health. Student
scholarships will total up to
$456,000 each year, including $50,000 college scholarships for each of two
national winners. Students
must apply online.
