[Journalists] Citizen Journalists To Get Paid In Holland

Hi Lori, and all,

While I could agree with you, I also think it depends
on what you're working towards, if anything in
particular. Because by building up a few solid clips
(if able) for only that measly $5 each, you could be
building a resume of clips that will ultimately help
you get those more regular $1 per word gigs. Many $1
or more per word magazine article writers start out by
publishing in newspapers. Newspapers are generally
easier because they need content daily, rather than
monthly as with most magazines.

Then there's this humor columnist I know in New
England, who rocks. She only gets $10 per column, I
think, but she's also building a future, if she wants
it. Gathering clips with a backing, by being published
in a decent newspaper, regularly. No, she certainly
doesn't live off of that supposed income. But she's
got numerous clips, and now book possibilities simply
by aggregating those columns if she wishes too. All
with the backing of being able to say they were pub'd,
or that she was a columnist, in her town's newspaper
over the years.

It all depends on what you're working towards.
Because, no, $10 or $5 per article is ludicrous, if all
you see coming from it is the immediate payback of the
money. Now, with citizen journalism, I think many
probably won't care about the money as much as getting
their names on their pieces, for their bit of fame.
And that's going to hurt many of us who care to get
paid what our skilss may be worth. Or may have been
worth in a different time. ;-)

Thanks,
Everett
