Liz,
I think I've heard the name, and in fact, as memory serves, I met Dan a year
or so ago.

I don't know if it is a federal guideline, but I do know that I was told by
my counselor, Larry Mackey, that I had to interview three people in the
trade, and turn in a report based on that. I volunteered to shadow a
reporter from the Lincoln Journal Star (I wanted to go the extra mile) and
when in the newsroom during a budget meeting, I knew it was what I wanted to
do.

Being slightly superstitious, every time I pass the Journal Star's offices,
I tap the top of the Newspaper box standing by the front door. *GRIN*

Hi Alan,

I received my rehab services from Nebraska over 20 years ago, before it was
officialy the Nebraska Commission for the Blind.
My counselor was Dan Hill; I am not sure if he is still with the agency.

When I talked to Dan last, he was moving from Omaha to western Nebraska.

Since I haven't gotten rehab services in quite some time, is market
research for employment a federal guideline?

Liz

Liz,
Who was your counselor here? They sure have changed things. It's as if
they want to be absolutely sure that people want the career they're going to
pursue after school.

Hello Ben,

I am glad your research is going well!

I did not have to complete a market research study in order to continue with
my college education.

In fact, I told my rehab counselor that I was going to major in journalism.

His response was, that's great; keep your grades up and let us know how you
are doing.

I got my rehab in Nebraska but went to college in Texas.

Personally, I think it is discriminatory for an agency to require you to do
a study. Such things are not required of sighted people who are in college.

We should have the same freedom to choose our careers, college majors, etc.

Sincerely,

Liz Campbell
