Well, Cheryl, I have to agree with your friend in Taiwan that what your
editor had in mind does seem as your friend put it "disparaging and
distasteful." To put my opinion in context, I watched the recent PBS special
"Through Deaf Eyes." There was a band of profoundly deaf musicians calling
themselves "Beethoven's nightmare." They did play a lot, and believe me, it
was loud, but they also were just completely doing it for themselves. Come
to think of it, at least they had some vibrations and visual cues from one
another that they could take. As a blind person, taking pictures is pardon
the cliche, but a total shot in the dark. You can tell your editor my
opinion if you wish, or not... your call.
