Kristina,
as a person who usually (though not always) refuses to participate in
telephone surveys, I'd say requesting the interview initially by snail mail does
not hurt a bit. Convincing your interviewee that the interview is necessary
and valuable ahead of time is well worth the 39 cents.

Hi Kristina,

What sort of interviews do you plan on conducting over the summer?

Why are you requesting interviews via snail mail?

It is difficult to suggest question possibilities without some knowledge of
the subjects you want to cover in your interviews.
