Hi Everyone,
Thank you all for responding so quickly with so many interesting suggestions!
Liz, the article in question is a 'firstperson, breast cancer survivor story, which I am submitting first to Lady's Home Journal -- the My Life section, Personal & professional growth/mind, body spirit. I entered on a link on their website under Help for Submission Guidelines, but nothing came up. I e-mailed them about it, but haven't heard back yet. Family Circle was a thought, as well.

My favorite topics are rural life, dogs, Harry Potter and rants on technology etc. I'm trying to segway out of my original career as a performer/songwriter -- still fun, but requires more travel than I have an interest in at present. Writing is something I've always done on the side -- both nonfiction and fiction, though I've restricted my fiction writing. I've only been a computer user for a bit over a year and had loads of technical problems the first year -- I'm on my third computer, which is working well, finally. I'm happy to learn that many magazines are taking e-mail submissions, which is the easiest for me.
Incidentally, I've had some things published in newspapers, but around here they're weekly's with no money for free lancers. I actually sold an article to a magazine years ago, but they never published it. Is that as ironic as it strikes me, or a common part of the business?
Thanks for all your help. I'll be ordering that book as soon as I clear out my current backlog of NLS books. I'm finishing "Getting Your Book Published for Dummies" and "The Power of Babel, and will start "The Elephants of Style" once I've finished the latest Potter book.
Cheers,
