[Jobs] drivers

Hi Everyone,
In most cases, blind piano technicians are generally forced to hire a
driver, if we want to tune and service nice pianos. The people who can
afford to keep up their pianos usually live in large houses, far from the
bus line.
I have found my best success, with agencies who specialise in working with
seniors. If you go to church, you might see if there is a volunteer who
would fill in. If you are going to the same place every day, at the same
time, it will be a little easier to find someone who would like a few bucks
as compensation for the time it takes.
You might also explore hetting in on a car pool, going to the approximate
place you're going. A temporary arrangement might be made between you and a
fellow employee. You might offer to put gas in the car, in exchange for a
ride.
While at the U of M, I pooled with a student several days a week. She and
her brother didn't want anything, nor would they take it, as I was right on
the way, and it only added a couple minutes to the trip to pick me up.
Their bonus, was that they received reduced parking rates at the lot,
because I was a passenger in their car.
When they borrowed money for parking, I never persued the repayment, and
only took it if they offered.
As I am currently unemployed/selfemployed, I use volunteers from my church
for piano tuning jobs in the neighborhood, and I have someone from the
middle east, who takes what I decide to give him, to go further distances
than the church people will go. As a last resort, my wife, who is sighted,
will drive on weekends.
I hope this helps.
best,
Ron Poire
