Teacher - English / Reading

Full-time School Year (.88)
The Wisconsin Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired (WCBVI) is
currently seeking an English/Reading Teacher. This is a full-time school
year position
and is in pay schedule 13, pay range 05 of the Current Compensation
Plan. Starting pay is $18.400 per hour, plus excellent benefits.
Additional compensation
is available up to $2.97 per hour for credits relevant to the position
beyond the Bachelor's degree. A six- month probationary period is
required.
JOB DUTIES: Provide instruction in English to junior high and senior
high school age visually impaired and/or multiple disabled students.
Work in conjunction/partnership
with a teacher of the visually impaired to effectively provide
instruction in the area of Language Arts to junior high/high school age
visually impaired
students to include use of innovative techniques, equipment, and
materials. Prepare daily lesson plans and meet with other staff and
consultants. Work
with IEP Coordinator and other special education personnel in
preparation of student evaluations and reports including, but not
limited to IEP planning
documents, IEP goals and objectives, transition plans, mid quarter
reports, report cards, and IEP reviews. Participate in additional
professional and school
related activities to promote and enhance the educational program
provided for WCBVI students.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Certification or eligible for certification in
English (300) by the Department of Public Instruction is required.
Certification in
Reading (316) is desired, but not required. Questions regarding
licensure may be directed to DPI licensing at 608-266-1879.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS/ABILITIES: Knowledge of principles and best practices
relating to teaching in the Language Arts areas. Knowledge of
individualized teaching
approaches used to maximize student potential. Ability to work with
special education professionals to write individualized behavioral
objectives for PLP
and IEP reports and assessments. Willingness to learn principles and
best practices related to instruction of students who are visually
impaired or blind.
