POSITION:   Case Manager for the Blind/Low Vision

                       E.H. Gentry

                       Birmingham Regional Center

 

Position Requirements:

*         Bachelor or Master's Degree in one of the following
disciplines is required. Rehabilitation, Special Education, Social Work,
Human Services, or Psychology.

*         Preference will be given for documented training, course work,
work with consumer organizations, involvement and/or experience with
Blind/Low Vision individuals.

*         Previous experience and/or knowledge of Braille transcription
a plus.

*         Must demonstrate competency in reading and writing Braille by
scoring 80% or better on AIDB Braille Skills Assessment Inventory within
the first thirty (30) months of employment. 

*         Documented experience and with computer equipment and
assistive technology for individuals who are blind/low vision is
preferred.

*         Previous experience with problem solving applications,
experience working across agency lines, and successful teaming
experience required as part of application information.  

*         Must be able to demonstrate strong communication skills in
drafting letters, memos and other documents in their chosen written
media.

*         Must demonstrate their ability to communicate in a
professional manner.

*         Must be willing to work a non standard work day with a
flexible schedule that allows for evening hours and some weekend work.

*         Must be flexible in dealing with work assignments and
unexpected interruptions.

*         The successful applicant must submit to a criminal history
background information check including, but not limited to, FBI and ABI
record repositories.  Upon offer of employment, the applicant must
present a non-refundable fee of $49.00 and appear for a scheduled finger
printing appointment.

 

AIDB is sensitive to the needs of Blind or Visually Impaired and Deaf or
Hard of Hearing and will make reasonable accommodations for qualified
applicants and employees that do not impose undue hardship and are not
essential functions of the job.

 

Performance Responsibilities:

*         Provide technical assistance for AIDB consumers and their
families.

*         Serve as the lead information and referral source for the AIDB
Regional Center and its consumers. Collaborate or make referrals for
other services within AIDB or with other state or local agencies
included.

*         Maintain a current database on all consumers, including
demographic information, referral, and services and submit to the
regional director in a timely manner as requested.  Maintain all records
and communications with full compliance to generally accepted standards
of confidentiality and privacy.

*         Identify needs and develop service delivery plans regarding
independent living skills training in consumer's homes.

*         Plan/coordinate/develop technology seminars/workshops,
center-based adaptive technology evaluations, one-to-one computer
training, one to one Braille training for consumers in the community and
within AIDB.

*         Plan, coordinate, develop business/corporate seminars on
assistive technology.

*         Collaborate with EH Gentry Assistive Technology staff on
adaptive computer evaluations, AT training, assistive devices, and other
related activities.

*         Collaborate with Health and Clinical Services to develop
programs for health promotion and health education.

*         Present, lead, facilitate these training sessions during
accessible times for identified consumers.  Collect training session
evaluation information from consumers.

*         Assess, develop and implement new services, training programs,
etc. as determined through periodic needs assessment.

*         Initiate collaborative activities that will promote public
awareness and improve community-wide accommodations for the blind.

*         Participate in state-wide committees and activities as related
to assistive technology/human services when designated.

*         Promote the purpose, goals and values of AIDB in coordination
services for consumers who are blind or low vision.

*         Perform other related duties as assigned by the Regional
Center Director.

 

SALARY:         $36,379 - $54,721   Scale PI Rank 53

                        (7% Increase effective October 1, 2007)

Direct deposit is required.

                        This position is a 260 day position, 8 hours a
day.

                        This is an exempt position, and is not subject
to overtime or compensatory provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
