THEATER AND MUSEUM INTERNSHIPS
January 2008 - December 2008
The HSC Foundation Internship Program
in partnership with
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
The HSC Foundation Internship Program is a unique opportunity to
participate in an internship at one of many cultural arts institutions
around the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
Five motivated individuals will participate in experiences which
explore today's theater and museum environments through internships. The
goal of the Internship is to provide opportunities for individuals to build
skills that enhance and advance their potential for future competitive and
professional employment in a career in the cultural arts.
Interns will enjoy close working relationships with experienced
theater and museum professionals, hands-on training opportunities, a
structured blend of independent and collective learning experiences, and the
opportunity to be a part of some of the D.C. area's busiest and most
artistically diverse museums, theaters, and performing arts centers. The
experience must be relevant to the intern's academic or professional goals
and to the needs of the theater or museum where the Internship is taking
place. Internships may include experiences in the following areas:
* Administrative: development, marketing, education, advertising, human
resources, archivist, information systems/technology, retail operations,
special events, event planning, box office and programming.
* Production: stage management, stage crew, construction, directing,
choreography, writing, design, and museum practices including research,
collections, management, exhibit design, and conservation.
* Design/Arts: visual arts, exhibitions, facility design, costuming, sets,
props, lights, sound, painting, film, graphics and multi-media.
* Performance: dancer, actor, and musician.
The internship may be full or part-time, last from three months to
one year, occur during the winter/spring (January - April, 2008), the summer
(May - August, 2008), or fall (September - December, 2008), and require a
commitment of at least ten hours per week. Full-time (40-hours a week)
interns will receive a stipend of up to $900 per month. Part-time interns
will be paid a stipend that is proportional to the number of hours spent
involved in internship activities. Stipends are intended to help defray
costs incurred as a result of the internship for such things as
transportation, clothing, and meals. Job coaching and accommodations are
provided as necessary.
