Eileen: I too think this listserve is a wonderful opportunity to share
thoughts, ideas, suggestions and issues. I would never shoot anyone
down for expressing their ideas and hope that same courtesy would be
given me. Hang in there girl, as long as I'm on the listserve you know
you have at least one receptive ear. <grin>

Ashley,

Thank you for your explanation. A while ago I posted in response to this
issue, but was chopped down for my response. Of course, the client has
the
choice to participate in the Ticket to Work, or to continue with their
VRC
provider. I am only gaining knowledge in the issue of "Ticket to Work"
through my vocational rehabilitation class for my graduate program . As
a
consumer, I was guided by my VRC on the inefficient knowledge the
agencies
have that are contract with the "Ticket to Work" program. That was why I
was
advised to continue my case with DOR.

I believe that this list serve purpose is to exchange ideas, gain
knowledge,
and the ability to post without being criticized. I hope my experience
with
this list serve will be more positive in the future. We all have the
thirst
to exchange ideas and learn.

Thanks for listening.

Eileen

But the Master degrees are not in Social Security. The lack of training
by
an agency usually has the end result of a VRC not being fully aware of
all
the options and thus, unintentionally, limiting the services to
the blind individual. As a former VRC, if I didn't know about a
program that a client mentioned I would research it before giving any
kind
of definite answer.

Eileen,

Sounds like your VRC actually wanted you to work with the VR agency. It
also shows your VRC's ignorance of the Social Security reimbursement
process, as it would benefit the VR agency for you to give them the
ticket
that Social Security sent to you. These people are often poorly
trained.
Ironic, since they have master's degrees.

John,

When the Ticket to Work was sent to me, my VRC stated not to sign up for
it
because the government didn't know how to service individuals with
visual
impairments and that I would be better served by VR services. I think
this
was a gimmick to get more individuals with visual impairments off the
state
VR rolls.

Hi:
Shortly after I started receiving SSDI in 2004, I received the
information
packet on Ticket to Work. I was so excited and immediately requested a
list
of service providers that service my area. Once I received the list, I
began to contact them, with great hopes. Several of them had me complete
applications and send in resumes, but nothing ever came from the effort.

The impression that I got from many of the conversations that I had was
that
they really weren't interested in working with blind persons. I pulled
an
updated list of providers late last year and noticed that the list had
shrunk considerably from the list I received in 2004. I think it was a
good
idea that just didn't work out--at least not for me.
