Hi:
It's just possible that the salary is reasonable.
First, the job encourages, but does not require, a law degree. Someone with
assistive technology background with knowledge of the ADA and good
presentation skills might be a strong candidate.
Secondly, while it is true that lawyers in the private sector make far more
than the listed salary, the salary is quite competitive when compared to
nonprofits.
Best, Peter

I appreciate having this job announcement but it really begs the question
re: the equality of salaries for individuals working in the field of
disability. The ABA should be ashamed of itself. No lawyer or
law-knowledgeable person I know is going to jump at this position given the
salary. They can make 23X this much in other positions. There is a lot to be
said for commitment to the field but this is the ABA. They given millions of
dollars each year to various programs and projects. That they are offering a
salary in this low range says that they are throwing a net to people with
disabilities because so many either are unemployed or underemployed. If the
agencies in the filed don't support the skill set of people with
disabilities (assuming they have the right qualifications and competency
stet) then what should we expect of others. After taxes this is not a
significant income and more, it is not consistent with legal professionals
in the field.
