The Virginia Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired (DBVI) is the
Commonwealth's agency solely dedicated to empowering individuals who are
blind,
vision impaired, and deafblind to achieve their maximum level of
employment, education, and personal independence. The Virginia
Rehabilitation Center for
the Blind and Vision Impaired (VRCBVI) is the residential training
center for DBVI. VRCBVI provides individualized adjustment training
services to empower
eligible adolescents and adults with visual impairments to achieve
independence.
Responsibilities:
VRCBVI seeks a qualified candidate to provide case management services
to blind and vision impaired students in a residential adjustment
training setting.
Focus is placed on individual, group and family counseling to ensure
positive outcomes in adjustment to blindness. Ensure students get
appropriate services
at the Center and in the community during adjustment training. Help
enable students to reach their independent living and vocational goals.
Write reports,
authorizations and plan amendments.
Qualifications:
*Extensive experience performing case management, vocational counseling
& service planning; working with individuals with diverse disabilities,
particularly
blindness; applying variety of assessment and counseling techniques;
developing comprehensive service plans and coordinating community and
financial resources
*Knowledge of barriers to employment, labor market, employment trends,
job placement
*Knowledge of SSA, RSA, Worker's Compensation, Work Incentives, Ticket
to Work and ADA
*Ability to establish and maintain rapport and good working
relationships with diverse populations at various levels
*Good oral and written communication skills
*Previous experience in a residential environment a plus.
*Proficient use of computers & MS Office (Word/Excel/Access)
*Experience working with the blind, vision impaired and physically
challenged is desirable.
*Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling or closely related field
*Possession of CRC or CVE or eligibility to sit for certification within
first year of hire.
A college/university transcript and/or copy of your applicable
certification should be included with your application.
Successful completion of fingerprinting and criminal background check
required. Annual completion of Statement of Economic Interests form
required.
