Each summer, the Wisconsin Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired
operates an adult education program. This year, the program runs from
July 22nd through August 10. The school is in Janesville Wisconsin,
thirty-five miles from Madison.
 
Position Announcements: Wisconsin Center for the Blind and Visually
Impaired (WCBVI) Adult Summer Program

 

Two positions are available for the WCBVI Adult Summer Program (ASP).
Positions will be for all or part of the ASP held from July 23-August
10.  Hours are 7:30 am-4:00 pm, with one planning meeting before the
program.  Pay will be a flat rate on contract (approximately $20/hour.)
If you can work only part of the program time, please respond with when
you are available.

Orientation & Mobility (1 position open of 3 positions)  DPI license 826
- O&M 
Duties:

*        Assess the ability of program participants to travel safely and
independently in familiar and unfamiliar environments. 

*        Assist participants in developing a plan for needed skills. 

*        Provide meaningful travel experiences for practicing needed
skills.

*        Provide instruction and assistance in mastering on-campus
travel, including but not limited to: orientation, managing in the
dining room, using appropriate mobility devices, etc.

*        Make recommendations to adults for future enhancement of
travel.

*        Provide experiences using, and information about, different
modes of travel (drivers, taxi, city bus, regional transportation).

*        Encourage safe, independent travel in all environments. 

*        Attend staff meetings.

 

 

Technology

Experience teaching computers, and demonstrated competency configuring
and instructing others on the use of assistive technology software and
devices. 

Duties:

*        Assess needs in the area of technology including computers and
other assistive technology devices. 

*        Provide meaningful instruction based on need/interest of adults
who are blind. 

*        Build a foundation of skills which can be further developed at
home. 

*        Demonstrate different types of technology and discuss the
relevant advantages and disadvantages of each. 

*        Provide resources and information regarding making equipment
accessible, obtaining such equipment, and public resources. 

*        Demonstrate different types of technology and discuss relevant
advantages and disadvantages of each.

*        Work cooperatively with student intern to provide instruction
to participants.
