SAL Employment Opportunities


Senior Program Coordinator 

This person will coordinate all programs and training at the Seniors
Center.  They will assist with in-home training, teaching skills such as
cooking, minor mending, time skills and locating resources in the community
for seniors with vision impairments.  Other duties include, grant research
and writing, referral programs and serving on various committees in the
community.  BA degree in rehabilitation, education, psychology, sociology or
related field.  One year experience in rehabilitation teaching or education
of persons with disabilities or two years experience in general education or
related field.  Experience working with aging population preferred. 
Bilingual preferred.               

Sewing Machine Operator 

The San Antonio Lighthouse has been awarded contracts with the Federal
Government under the Javits-Wagner-O'Day Act of 1938. The San Antonio
Lighthouse must maintain a 75% ratio of blind employees to sighted employees
for government projects. Therefore, the Lighthouse is seeking to fill these
positions with legally blind personnel.  This is a great opportunity for
anyone who is legally blind and is seeking employment. The Lighthouse offers

BASE SERVICE CENTER CASHIER

RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, CANNON AIR FORCE BASE and FORT HOOD TEXAS

San Antonio Lighthouse is seeking a cashier for the Randolph, Cannon and Ft
Hood BSC’s.  This person must be Legally Blind to comply with Federal
Government Regulations.  This person will perform customer service, greet
customers, assist in product selection, operate a point of sale system
(POS), operate a computer bar code system and receive payment from customers
through the IMPACT credit card system.  Must have basic math skills, ability
to stock shelves, ability to visually locate and scan a bar code.  The
Lighthouse will provide the necessary training required for this position.  

Technology Instructor

San Antonio Lighthouse is seeking an experience person to teach basic
computer classes to individuals with disabilities. This person will also
write detailed report on participant progress and performance. Bachelor
Degree in Computer Science, Business Technology or related discipline.  

Help Desk Specialist

Serves as Desktop Support for Individuals requiring technical support.
Performs hardware maintenance in a network environment. Performs software
maintenance & development as required. Performs basic systems procedural
functions.

JOB FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Serves as First Point of Contact for Users requiring Technical
Support

·        Provides training for new users and on-going training for existing
users

·        Hardware diagnostics, repair, assembly, upgrade, installation and
configuration:  To include but not limited to:  PC workstations, Network
Servers, Communications components and other peripherals.

·        Install, troubleshoot, upgrade, and support software applications,
computer systems and networking.

·        Participation in the installation, upgrade, diagnostic and repair
of network cabling components.

·        Software diagnostics, repair, upgrade, installation and
configuration:  

·        Provide procedural operations such as but not limited to System
Back-Ups. 

·        Software Development to provide new programs or changes to existing
applications.

·        Assist to support the LAN/WAN environment in troubleshooting,
storage and security management, virus, and Spam control.
QUALIFICATIONS: 
·        High school diploma or Equivalent 

·        1 year college level work specific to Computer Sciences or (1) year
work experience with Windows XP & Office 2000 Suite on the technical support
level

·        Ability to perform installation, maintenance, repair and problem
diagnosis for complex internal hardware and wide variety of current software
applications.

·        Ability to identify and diagnose problems related to computer
hardware and software and to find effective solutions.

·        Periodic travel to remote locations to perform duties as stated
above.

·        Good reading and writing skills

·        Ability to manipulate equipment weighing up to 50 pounds without
assistance. 

Training Requirements:

·        Utilize Help Desk Software to track help desk requests

·        Add Users to Activity Directory according to Company Standards

·        Add/Modify/Delete User Security on Files & Folders on Server Shares

·        Add/Modify/Delete User Security on SAL Applications

·        Ability to perform backups on server and workstations

·        Installation of Microsoft Applications as defined above

·        Installation of SAL Developed Applications

TRAVEL:  Approximately 20%.

SALARY:  Commensurate with experience.

Base Service Center Assistant Manager/Lackland

Assist the Base Service Center Manager in the daily operation of a Base
Service Center, which provides expendable/non-expendable supplies, material
and equipment to a variety of customers; coordinates all general business
and logistical matters, which typically include accounting, budget
preparation and control, personnel coordination and work activities
planning, building maintenance, purchasing, printing, data processing
coordination, marketing and related activities; supervises all personnel
working in the Base Service Center; performs related duties as required. 

JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Assists the Base Supply Store Manager in the daily business
operations of the store.

·        Provides orientation to new employees.

·        Utilizes point of sale system to track sale, inventory and bar
coding, establish and implement marketing program to improve and increase
customer satisfaction.

·        Responsible for the coordination of the receipt, storage and/or
distribution of supplies, materials and equipment sold through the Base
Supply Store.

·        Responsible for inventory control procedures that account for the
receipt, storage and shelf stocking of all items sold through the Base
Supply Store.

·        Responsible for maintaining a clean work and customer service
areas.

·        Responsible for maintaining Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and
will furnish them to customers upon request.

·        Perform additional duties as assigned by the Base Service Center
Manager. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

·         High School diploma or equivalent

·        Three years of retail store related to point of sale system,
shipping/receiving, marketing, sales, shelf stocking, and customer service
programs.

·        Recent experience in retail sales of office supplies.

·        Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of retail
store operations, management, supervision and logistical operations.

·         Ability to coordinate and direct a variety of administrative
activities.

·         Ability to establish priorities and meet operational deadlines.
QUALIFICATIONS:

·        Skill in oral and written communication.

·        Skill in utilizing point of sale system for sales inventory
management

·        Ability to form effective working relationship.

·        Ability to plan, assign, supervise and evaluate personnel.
