The Youth Services Section of Blind Industries and Services of MD is
seeking highly energetic, self-starting, upbeat, men and women over 18
to serve as counselors, instructors, mentors and role models for our
summer transition program for blind high school students. 

 

Ideal candidates will have

*       Excellent organizational and communication skills

*       Ability to "think-on-your-feet," problem solve and multitask

*       Background experience in human services

*       Blindness skills training

 

Residential Counselors will live in the apartments with students and
provide instruction in non-visual methodology for all aspects of
residential life from laundry to casseroles. They will travel with
students and facilitate participation in off-site activities such as
theme parks, job shadowing, ocean sails, Orioles game, crab feast,
community service, and tourist attractions. Counselors will provide
support, encouragement, and motivation for the students.  

 

Day Only Job Coaches will travel to and from the job site with students
and assist them in an employment setting to learn and perform a job and
to adjust to the work environment.

 

Residential Job Coaches perform the duties of a job coach plus assist
students evenings and weekends with residential skills in the apartments
in the same capacity as Residential Counselor.
