"I'm confused; does this have to do with NFB's JOB program, or is this a
separate entity?"

Dear Job Seekers,

I saw this question on an email recently and thought others might like
to know a bit more too.

The Jobline program that is suspended is the one based on NFB-NEWSLINE
software. A job seeker would use a touch-tone phone to dial the 800
number to cull through the millions of job listings on a job bank
maintained by the U.S. Department of Labor. However, DOL decided there
are now enough job banks on the Internet and so, for that and other
reasons, they are no longer going to maintain their site, which is
called America's Job Bank (www.ajb.org <http://www.ajb.org/> ). Our NFB
service, America's Jobline, therefore, will not have a site to pull
from. There is discussion here about reinventing Jobline in a new way
to be of help to blind job seekers. Perhaps we will hear something
about this by convention time in Atlanta. Assisting blind persons to
meaningful employment is one of the top goals of the NFB: always has
been; always will be.

I suggest any blind job seeker who wishes to use the Internet to search
for job openings, begin by accessing The Riley Guide online at
www.rileyguide.com <http://www.rileyguide.com/> . As it says on its
home page: "Employment Opportunities and Job Resources on the Internet,
Providing free career and employment information since February 1994."
It gives very good advice and it is itself accessible to screen readers,
although, of course, some of the links will be to sites that will not
be.

Cordially,
