Job Title: HEALTH EDUCATOR-A- COMMISSION FOR THE BLIND

Full or Part Time: Full-Time
Regular or Temporary: Regular - PERM for State
Salary: the salary range for this position is $16.68 - $26.11 hourly.
Offered salary is determined based on education and experience
qualifications.
Pay Band: 65
Recruitment Period: April 4 - April 19
Agency Mission & Description: Our mission is to enable persons who are
blind to achieve vocational, economic and social equality by providing
career preparation, training in the skills of blindness and above all,
promoting and conveying the belief that blindness is not a barrier to
successful employment, or to living an independent and meaningful life."
Purpose of Position: Provide blindness skills training including,
orientation & mobility training to blind and visually impaired consumers
within the greater Albuquerque area and surrounding communities.
Develops and coordinates Independent Living Skills Training programs for
individuals who are blind. Works with the Commission's Independent
Living Teachers and staff to identify consumer needs. Create curricula
to meet those needs, and recruit participants on an ongoing basis.
Teaches personal management which includes health maintenance, the use
of adaptive equipment, cane travel, Braille instruction, technology
skills and home management. Provides blindness philosophy and
counseling to assist in psychological acceptance relative to the onset
of blindness. Responsible for determining the consumers' ability to
function effectively and efficiently using newly acquired blindness
skills.
Educational requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Education or
Rehabilitation Teaching (Please enter your education level on the

Experience: Five (5) years experience in Independent Living Teaching,
Vocational Rehabilitation or working with the blind.
Working Environment: Extensive travel. Some office setting
