[Jobs] is this statement legal?

Cheryl,
I think it is worth challenging. As far as I know, New Mexico state
government is not exempt from anything. Even if you are not interested in
applying, it is a good idea to send a letter making the case that it is
discriminatory, and that a blind person could use technology to handle the
job responsibilities. I doubt if any of the papers the employee must read
would be handwritten.

The federal government is, however, bound by the rehabilitation act, section
501 which is the language the ADA imitated.

Surprisingly, or maybe not surprisingly, the federal government is
exempt from the ADA.

hi Seville and list.

My reaction was similar to yours, that this is like the infamous "must
have
a valid drivers license". I'm not applying for the job--it's in Ohio and
I'm
in New Mexico. However, I have seen similar statements on government job

announcements including the federal government--folks who should know
about
the ADA so I'm wondering if such bogus "requirements" are a new way to
weed
out people with disabilities--a kinder gentler discrimination.
