Dear Michel,
That is fantastic! I would say that you should get to know some of the
people on this list who work for companies such as Freedom Scientific and
Human Ware or GW Micro.
These are the 3 leading companies in the U.S. and employ many blind people
as programmers and other experts in the development of adaptive software and
hardware.
As for going to college and getting around, you will need to have very good
mobility skills, with a cane or a dog.
If you do not have these skills yet, then you may need to take some time and
get them at a very good rehab center such as the NFB has in Louisiana,
Colorado or Minnesota. they are the best.
You should have some command of Braille as it is a well known fact that over
90% of all working blind people know and use Braille.
Hopefully your state blind services department will help you obtain any
training you may need and help you with equipment such as a electronic note
taker like a Pac-Mate or a Braille Note.
You can even get these units with a G.P.S. unit and software that will help
you navigate in new and unknown surroundings.
You are lucky. there is so much ahead for you as a young person.
I wish you the best of luck.

Subject: [Jobs] computers and college
Hello,
my name is Michel. I am about to go ahead and start college. I am afraid of
so many things. My main fear is getting around campus. Another fear is not
being able to keep up. My passion is computers. I am a computer genius to my
family and a computer dummy when talking to computer experts. I want to get
a bachelor's degree in computer engineering. I was told that this is one of
the highest paying job in the computer field. I would really like to hear
from anyone who has went to school for computers that is blind. I would
also like to hear from anyone that is totally blind like myself for advice
and technology that is used to do their jobs. I really ` this web site and
with everyone's help folks will be calling me Mr. Microsoft in no time!
Thank you so so much for your time and support!
