Wisconsin Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired (WCBVI)

SALARY:         Starting pay is $17.995/hour plus excellent benefits.
May receive additional

                        compensation up to $2.97/hour for credits
relevant to the position beyond a

                        Bachelor's degree.  This position is in pay
schedule 13, range 05.  A six-month

                        probationary period is required.

 

JOB DUTIES:            Provide classroom instruction to K-12 visually
impaired students, many of whom

                        have additional disabilities.  The provision of
instruction includes basic academic

                        skill areas of reading, writing, language arts,
mathematics, social studies,

                        and/or science.  Provide instruction in
functional education within a domain

                        curriculum; provide individual academic
assessment, diagnosis, and 

                        recommendations for visually impaired students
(K-12) on a referral basis.  

                        Prepare daily lesson plans and instructional
materials; consult with staff, other

                        professionals and parents regarding student
needs and progress.  Support

                        educational programming for students by
preparing written evaluation

                        summaries, quarterly report cards, present level
of performance (PLP) reports

                        and behavior objectives for student IEPs.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:  Knowledge of appropriate teaching methods to use with
students who

                        have visual impairments; appropriate materials
and adaptations necessary to 

                        teach students who have visual impairments;
state and federal guidelines for

                        IEP assessment process; and exceptional
education needs of children who have

                        multiple disabilities.  Ability to work
cooperatively with parents, local school

                        districts and WCBVI staff on programs/problems
associated with student needs.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:  Licensed or eligible for licensure in Visual
Disability (825) by the

                        Department of Public Instruction is required.
